Cagliari

Cagliari (Casteddu in Sardinian, Càller in old Castillan and Catalan) is an Italian city of about 158.000 inhabitant. It's the capital of the province of Cagliari and of the autonomous region of Sardinia. Its metropolitan area ( which comprises the urban municipalities of Cagliari, Monserrato, Selargius, Quartucciu, Quartu Sant'Elena, Capoterra, Elmas, Assemini and Sestu) has a population of 368.000 people ( ISTAT data, 2007) which become 474.000 if the urban agglomeration is included (see Cagliari's Metropolitan area). It is the seat of the University of Cagliari and the Archidiocese of Cagliari.
